Abstract

This study investigates the role of information products and services in curbing thuggery in Nigeria's electioneering system. The paper reviews existing literature on the topic, and employs a qualitative research approach to gather data from stakeholders in the electoral process. The findings suggest that information products and services, such as voter education programs, fact-checking initiatives, and election observation reports, can play a significant role in reducing thuggery and promoting peaceful elections in Nigeria. The study recommends the development and dissemination of targeted information products and services to combat thuggery and ensure credible elections in Nigeria.
A qualitative research approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with stakeholders in the electoral process, including election officials, civil society organizations, and political party representatives. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, and findings were presented in a narrative form.
The study revealed that social media platforms, community radio stations, and traditional media outlets are essential channels for disseminating information products and services to combat thuggery. Additionally, the study recommends the development and dissemination of targeted information products and services to combat thuggery and ensure peaceful elections in Nigeria and electoral stakeholders must prioritize voter education programs, fact-checking initiatives, and election observation reports to empower citizens and promote credible democratic processes.
Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of information products and services in curbing thuggery in Nigeria’s electioneering system. The findings and recommendations provide valuable insights for electoral stakeholders, civil society organizations, and media outlets working to promote peaceful and credible elections in Nigeria.
