[1]-An Examination of the Factors Employed To Manage Room Attendants’ Turnover in Some Selected Three-Star Hotels in Takoradi-Ghana

Abstract:

Staff turnover has become a problem for a lot of organisations especially the hospitality industries that try to have the proper staffing levels to foster the growth of the industry. The study is an attempt to examine the factors employed to manage room attendants’ turnover in some selected three- star hotels in Takoradi-Ghana. Four three-star hotels were considered for the study. The research instruments that were used for the study are semi structured interview guide and a questionnaire. The sample size used for the study was sixty five respondents comprising General Managers, Human resource managers, Assistant managers and Supervisors. One of the major findings from the study was that certain policies and strategies have been put in place to combat this menace in hotels. It is recommended that staff in the hotels should be motivated to stay in the industry.

Abstract:Foods vended on the street are readily available sources of meal for many people. However, the biological safeties of such foods are always in doubt. It was against this background that this study was undertaken to assess the food safety practices among food vendors in and around Takoradi Polytechnic campus. A total of 60 food vendors were selected from in and around Takoradi Polytechnic (66.7% females and 33.3% males). The age ranges of respondents were between 15 and 41 years, and the educational levels were between tertiary education to as low as primary school leavers. Majority (73.3%) of the vendors handled food when they had cuts and bruises while 26.7% did not handle food when they had cuts and bruises. About eighty three percent went for medical check-up whereas 16.7% did not go for medical check-up at all. Forty percent went for medical check-up every year, 23.3% went for check-up when they were sick 13.3%, went to the hospital at the middle of the year and every month. Almost three percent went for medical check-up weekly. Seventy percent did not wear rings and nail polish but 30% wear rings and nail polish during food production. Majority of food vendors observed good hygienic practices and also used good potable water for their food preparations. The study recommended that, there was the need for health education for these vendors in order to ensure food safety for consumers in and around the Takoradi Polytechnic campus.

Abstract: The emergence of internet banking has prompted banks to rethink their Information Technology (IT) strategies in order to stay competitive. Customers today are demanding much more from banking services. They want new levels of convenience and flexibility. Undoubtedly, the advantages using the Internet as a delivery channel for the banks are important, but what happens with the customers. The emergence of the Internet brought some major changes which affect the consumers. The reduction of the prices is a fact. Now the new business model is the internet enabled model i.e. Banks without any physical presence (Pureplay) and even those with physical presence use this model (Brick and Mortar) in order to reduce their operating costs whiles making high profits. It is against this backdrop that this study attempts to investigate the usage level of internet banking among customers in Secondi Takoradi Metropolis of Ghana. The study adopted descriptive survey method of research and a sample of one hundred and fifty (150) respondents were chosen for the study. The study showed that, in spite of the various challenges of internet banking, i.e. cost, security, fraud, unreliable internet connection among others, majority of respondents (customers) still prefer to use the system since their advantages far overweigh the disadvantages.
